Pose practice

About a month ago I did a few drawings from live action video and photo reference. I drew them as turtles, nyuk nyuk. I have since kind of abandoned the dark ink-like PS brush that I used for these. Currently trying a brush set at 50% opacity for a more pencil-y, less harsh effect. Some of these are iffy, yeah. I moved on to drawing other stuff and forgot about doing more of these... I ought to be more consistent with what I practice drawing...

More stuff I did during lectures (Spring 2012)

PMC Halloween 2012

Drew some costumed students. Traditional pencil and paper feels really good... a lot better than the slippery surface of a tablet PC (and Cintiq, too, I'm assuming.)

These drawings are a lot lighter in real life, but I upped the contrast just to make it pop. I felt that other stuff I uploaded in the past just looked too light. I'm sure there are mistakes in these drawings, and I didn't draw any ground planes... just felt like putting these out and not fussing too much.

I think Jack Frost's staff isn't accurate. The only ref. I had on hand was the costumed person (Chris Bak) in front of me. This was a pretty good costume, actually.

PMC Film Festival 2012 eyecatches

PMC Film Fest 2012 eyecatches from Tung Nguyen on Vimeo.

I did these transitions for the Pencil Mileage Club Film Festival 2012.
Obviously inspired by Gurren Lagann.
Oh yeah, I made that logo in the corner.

I think we had some great submissions this year. Thanks to Kevin Lam for putting all the films together, and the rest of the PMC officers for their contributions during the year. Ginger Ale (the girl in red) design by James Lien.

Drawn by Chance: "Tall Lanky Hybrid Animals"

Since that blog (http://drawnbychance.blogspot.com/) hasn't updated yet, I figured I'd doodle something real quick in my sketchbook and throw it up. I had been burning to do one on time, but I tend to always be more careful and take more time when I'm drawing on my tablet PC, so I didn't get around to it. Well, this time it was in my sketchbook during class and it took only a few minutes.

Korra again

EDIT: I redrew it. Felt like I overworked it the first time.

Looking at this, I think I'd like to redraw the whole thing again... hah hah.

Sketchbook stuff

Composition studies from life, drawings of colleagues

Stuff from months ago

^ The title says "Stuff from months ago." Can anyone read that font? Har har

Some of these I kinda like. Some are just alright.

These are from a CDA Sunday life drawing session. Hadn't stepped foot in the place for almost a year.  Everyone there seemed to be applying what they learned from classes, which was nice.

An old one

This is an old one from a Sketch Crawl at the LA Zoo. I wonder if people can recognize this person if they know her...

Squeezable Singing

So I did this quick for the Drawn By Chance blog.

The theme this week was "Squeezable Singing"

Edit: Just got inspired after uploading the first one

Study of Alien

This was for Chuck's storyboard class.

These are supposed to be studies in composition and value. From the list Chuck provided, I picked Ridley Scott's Alien.
I think I spent too much time on these, in terms of detail... I think next time I should simplify more (and especially not try to get likenesses down).

We were kinda supposed to use solid values (4 total), but this seemed a bit harsh-looking to me so I ended up using gradients (4 values total). Now I wonder if this made it look a bit too complicated.

Also, here's a quick floorplan of the scene. Not sure how I accurate I got it...
